Open storage

Open storage refers to furniture used for storage that is not closed at the front, but rather open. The sides and back panels can be open or closed. The contents of the furniture are therefore always visible from the front.

Closed storage

Closed storage refers to furniture that is also closed at the front. This can include doors, flaps, or drawers.

Dresser

The chest of drawers is the oldest type of so-called case furniture. It always consists of drawers, which, however, can vary considerably in number and size. The German word was borrowed from French (commode = convenient).

Lowboard

A lowboard is always low. Typically between 25 and 50 cm high, it primarily serves as a TV or media unit. While its compartments offer relatively little storage space, the surface provides ample room for decoration. It utilizes width and, with sufficient length, can visually lengthen a room.

Sideboard

A sideboard is generally 70-100 cm high. It evolved from the chest of drawers, but differs in function. Instead of drawers, a sideboard is often equipped only with doors and shelves. As a sideboard in the dining room, it also has drawers for cutlery. Sideboards are now also placed in living rooms or other areas, as they perfectly combine storage and decorative functions.

Highboard

A classic highboard is taller than a sideboard, typically between 110 and 130 cm. Highboards are usually narrower than they are tall and combine open and closed storage options. If a highboard is very tall and wide, it is more often referred to as a wall unit or entertainment center.

living room wall unit

A wall unit is a large, multi-part combination that consists either of individual, screwed-together elements or of individual sides and shelves in a so-called continuous construction.

shelf

A shelf is a simple, open storage solution. There are two main types: wall shelves, which consist solely of a shelf attached to the wall, and more complex, freestanding shelves. Shelves are always open at the front and may also have side and back panels. Modular furniture systems offer the option of partially equipping a shelf with closed compartments or drawers, thus maintaining the lightness and transparency of a shelf while simultaneously creating storage space for less conspicuous items.

room divider

A room divider is a piece of furniture, a curtain, or something similar used to divide or screen off a room into different areas. Depending on the desired effect, room dividers can be high or low, and allow or block views through them.

Display case

side table

A side table is a small table that can be used for various purposes. It is often found next to a sofa as a surface for placing items. It is usually smaller and higher than a coffee table.

coffee table

The coffee table is placed in front of a sofa. It is usually very low.

ergonomics

The term ergonomics comes from the Greek (ergon = work, nomos = rule/science). Ergonomics means designing and adapting working conditions and requirements to the needs and abilities of the working person.

Ergonomic working

Working at a computer often means sitting slightly hunched over at a desk, which can lead to tension and chronic back problems. Ideally, you should regularly alternate between sitting and standing, preferably every two hours. This is best achieved with a height-adjustable desk. The ideal distribution is as follows: 60% dynamic sitting, 30% working while standing, and 10% purposeful walking around. Every office worker should sit at an ergonomic workstation .

Desk

A desk is a piece of furniture for writing and office work.

desk

A lectern is a table-like frame with a slanted surface for reading or writing. Teachers' desks in classrooms have been called lecterns since the 1950s, although the characteristic slant is often no longer present.

Height-adjustable desk

This refers to a desk whose writing surface is height-adjustable. A distinction is made between manually and electrically height-adjustable desks .

Manually height-adjustable desk

The tabletop height is adjusted either by pressing down firmly on the tabletop or by using a crank. This can be strenuous and time-consuming.

Electrically height-adjustable desk, Electric desk

The height is adjusted electrically at the touch of a button. Electrically height-adjustable desks are significantly more comfortable than manual ones, as changing postures regularly is effortless. A distinction is made between electric desks with and without a memory function.

Control panel

Every electric desk has either a control panel with up or down buttons or a display with height indicator and memory function.

Memory function

The control panel of electric desks with a memory function displays the desk height and features memory buttons. This memory function allows you to easily set the exact working height for different users or situations with the touch of a button.

Soft start/stop function

This feature guarantees a smooth, jerk-free height adjustment, so that no objects can fall off the desk.

Anti-collision protection

This feature helps prevent damage or even injuries. In the event of a collision, the movement is stopped immediately and the desk retracts. This feature protects, for example, against damage to objects underneath the desk when it is lowered, or against damage to the desk itself.

Height-adjustable feet

Height-adjustable feet allow for fine-tuning to compensate for minor unevenness in the floor.

Anti-fingerprint

The anti-fingerprint effect means that a fingerprint on the surface is not visible to the naked eye, or only very faintly.

Veneer, real wood veneer

Veneer refers to thin layers of wood that are separated from the log using various sawing and cutting techniques. Veneered surfaces are real wood surfaces that, like solid wood, exhibit different grain patterns depending on the tree. Artificial imitations, on the other hand, are often described as having a "wood look."

Melamine coating

Melamine is a synthetic resin. Due to its properties, it is an ideal material for coating furniture. Melamine surfaces are easy to clean, robust, and resistant to water and grease.
